The purpose of this contract is the drafting of the layout and construction project for the improvement of the connection of the A-15 with the N-I in Bazkardo, Andoian. The aim is to change the current single lane configuration of the A-15 with the N-I to two lanes and guarantee a minimum speed of 80 km/h, avoiding the queues that occur today.

The current connection of the A-15 with the N-I in Andoain (towards Vitoria-Gasteiz) is made by a single lane through the Bazkardo junction. The route is winding, with curves of reduced radius for such intense traffic. The Bazkardo junction has an average daily intensity (IMD) of 63,000 vehicles, of which 8,200 correspond to heavy vehicles over 12 tons. This layout limits, above all, the manoeuvrability of large articulated trucks. This generates, at certain times, traffic jams that reach the Atorrasagasti tunnel.

The main objective of the work is to find a solution to this problem by studying different possible alternatives, both from the point of view of road safety and the environment.

“We are looking for the A-15 junction with the N-I to change from the current single-lane configuration to two lanes and to guarantee a minimum connection speed of 80 km/h, avoiding the queues that occur today,” stressed the deputy for Road Infrastructures.

The chosen alternative will go to public exhibition for possible allegations and finally the layout project will become a construction project.
