The railway network of Euskal Trenbide Sarea (hereinafter, E.T.S.) has a total length of 181 km along the territories of Bizkaia and Gipuzkoa, which is crossed by different paths and roads in 98 level crossings and 23 crossings between station platforms. Some of them are in the process of being removed, thanks to the specific works to replace them or as a result of the track doubling currently underway.

Previously, several inventories of the level crossings existing at that time were made, as well as a study for their removal or improvement. A specific investment program was also drawn up.

The purpose of this contract is to carry out a study that aims to update the last one, carried out in 2010 for the level crossings existing today, updating the data on demand, traffic, visibility and danger.

The aim is to adapt the existing level crossings to the current legislation, as well as to eliminate the speed restrictions and limitations that could be induced by each crossing in the railway operation, to improve the signalling and railway safety systems and to make a technical and economic analysis of the convenience of replacing them with different level crossings.
