From an action planning point of view, and in order to provide a pedestrian-cyclist itinerary that connects Lezo with Donibane (Pasaia), the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa includes in the documents “Plan for the Gipuzkoa Cycle Route Network” and in the “Sectorial Territorial Plan for Cycle Routes in Gipuzkoa”, the proposals for action in terms of cycle routes in the Historical Territory of Gipuzkoa.

Among these proposals is the construction of the route called I-1 Donostia – Irún. Section 1.2. Errenteria – Pasaia (Donibane), with a total planned length of 3.1 km to be executed in several phases. Up to the present time, phases 2 and 3 have been executed, as stated in the “Project for the construction of the Lezo-Donibane pedestrian-cyclist road (Itinerary nº 1.2: Errenteria-Pasaia (Donibane) Section 01 008F)”.

However, and in spite of the existence of the mentioned project, the execution of phase I is still pending, which will be the object of the present project, and which corresponds to a section of about 880 m in length, which runs from the urban center of Lezo to the access to Pasaia, at PK 1+040 of the GI-3440 road.

The starting solution, in coordination with the sections or phases already executed, is the definition of a pedestrian-cyclist itinerary, about 890 m long, connecting the municipalities of Lezo and Donibane. According to the “Construction project of the Lezo-Donibane pedestrian-cycling route (Itinerary nº 1.2: Errenteria-Pasaia (Donibane) section 01 008F)”, the route is divided into three (3) differentiated sections, of which sections or phases 2 and 3 have already been executed.

For this, it will be necessary to modify the geometric characteristics of the roadway, reducing the width of the platform from seven (7) to 6.30 m, in order to provide the pedestrian-cyclist itinerary with a total width of three (3) m that allows safe and comfortable transit for users and, in addition, the access of conservation and maintenance vehicles.
